Hi, I'm Naveena! 

 

I am a PhD student at the University of Washington's School of Computer Science and Engineering, working with the Information and Communication Technology and Development (ICTD) Lab and advised by Richard Anderson. I graduated from Georgia Tech's College of Computing in December 2016 and worked with the TanDEm lab, advised by Neha Kumar.

I'm interested in the use and design of technology related to health and education in low-resource contexts, particularly by girls and women. This work tends to fall in the overlap of HCI (Human Computer Interaction) and ICTD. I have worked on projects related to women's safety in public spaces, offline media sharing in rural areas, virtual reality and technology use in learning environments, and healthcare access for low-income populations.

 

My research is rooted in feminist methodologies, in which participation, pluralism, reflexivity, and careful consideration of the potential effects of a technology are crucial to the research and design process.
